Whats the difference between a SD40-2 and a SD40-3MR?

A -2 has upgraded electronic components from the standard model. I'm not sure what a -3MR is, but I would assume further upgrades to the electrical system (perhaps the main generator) and on-board systems. Having never been on or have worked one I couldn't say for sure.
I doubt the company would respond... The best place for these questions is a railroad forum, like railroad.net or the Klambach Trains forum (publisher of Trains and Model Railroader)... This isn't the best place for good answers...

I am definitely no expert on locomotive configurations and EMDs, but I asked a similar question once about a "Dash" model with a weird designation like that. I can't give you specifics but I do know that the "Dash" models refer to the computer systems that they carry, so I am guessing that the Portland & Western or a former owner had the system updgraded/changed at some point from it's original -2 configuration. You might want to ask someone at the company, I'm sure that they could tell you everything about the -3MR setup.
