do yall think hawaii should build a heavy rail system that could connect all 5 islands of hawaii.?

Perhaps if Hawaii was a heavily developed state with several large cities (as connection points) the idea would be more sound (although, unlikely). However, besides the line requiring billions of dollars to construct (because of the very rugged topography of Hawaii and the several spanned bridges required to connect each island) and maintain it simply would not be viable.
Railroads today make the bulk of their profits by hauling products, long distances (usually greater than 300-500 miles for the big Class 1 railroads), from point A to point B. Examples of this include coal, intermodal (large ocean-going containers), and chemicals, just to name a few. Not only does Hawaii not have any of these products to transport, but also, even if it did, there are would be no destination points to haul them to (and none large enough anyway to make a profit).
And, on top of that, the idea would not even be viable to transport people (passenger rail) for the reasons mentioned above (the population density is just not there).

Oh yes, it's a great idea... perhaps they could use really big blocks of Styrofoam as flotation devices to lay the rail supports on, between the islands since there's not enough steel in the world to build support pylons from the surface to the bottom of the Pacific. LOL

I don't think so. I think the heavy rail system would damage the environment. Since the islands are already small, and tourism is one of Hawaii's biggest money makers, I don't think it'd be a wise decision.

Heavy rail systems are used to move tons of raw material, or large quantities of finished goods from one area to another. What are they going to ship in Hawaii? Pineapples? Lava Rock?
Even if we could build it - there is no need for it.

Good Idea, but alas not practical. Tropical storms would hinder the building and the earthquakes that hawaii has could cause problems

Hell NO it would be horrible and it will hurt the landscape and tourism will decline who would want a rail system in Hawaii leave it alone.

I've never seen so many moronic answers from "it'll damage the environment" to "build it under water so you can look out".
Since I am speaking from experience...
No, it would not be practical. The space is too small, and there is not any infrastructure to build from. Plus everything from track to locomotives and equipment would have to be shipped in.
Its simply not worth it. But for the record, it would damage the environment nor would it "dirty" anything.

well in order to create a more unified community you are supposed to be connected it will make traveling from island to island more easier and faster so yes there should be a heavy rail system

No! I think Hawaii will lose its beauty if rail system is introduce

No, i do not think that is a good idea. Hawaii used to be even more beautiful. now it is starting to look like New York.

The traffic demand does not warrant it, however a version of Hallitubes would be desirable for Waikiki to North Shore tourism..
Do you want to see a completely new approach to solving
the commuting and traffic jam problem? Google "Hallitubes"
and find one of the mirrors.

Wouldn't be too bad of an idea.. However, the weather out there is nasty, and it could cause many problems.
Not to mention that it is nearly impossible to do.. And it would cost billions and billions of dollars. Though a noble idea, it would never happen.

Personally I dont think it would be possible to build one, from an engineering point of view.

I don't think it would be a bad idea, but the weather issues they can have out there might make it difficult if not impossible.

That would be so cool! Definitely!!!!!
Especially if it was under water and you could look out!
Or they could have high speed submarines, sorta like underwater buses.

if they did they should put it under water so it wouldnt ruin the looks of the islands and would protect it from weather

that would be cool if it was under the water that way you could see the aquatic life while your traveling.
