last week i travelled in a day train which has a travel of 8 hours.... Due to that i decided to book a sleeper class so that i can travel at rest. On the way my neighbours called me to sit and travel in the day time where mine with lower berth.
Is that any rules/regulations advising that i need to sit and travel... ?

as per the rules reservation is 8 Pm to 8Am and in day time it is only for sit as you find three number are put in lower berth ,
but if your fellow passenger want to sit on lower berth after some time they sit ,
you can told that i want to relax so please go to you berth or you will go on their berth,
for relax,
it is just mutual understanding with fellow passengers,
if they argue with you they u can told that i will go to upper berth or middle berth for relax,
because of this reason i always choose upper berth.

Manoj Gouda is 100% right. There is not any rule in Indian Railway who restricts you to sit in day journey in sleeper class. You have paid fare for a full berth so you are entitled to enjoy facilities of a berth. If your co-passengers call to sit you then you can take the help of coach conductor/TTE.

Friendly saying, once I travelled on SL train in which I got UB [upper berth] beside me other 5 seats occupied by a family who was so rude. They occupied both the lower berth during day time, there was no place where I can sit during day time even whenever I asked them for a little place where I can sit, they starts arguing and refuses to give any place where I can sit. My journey was for 3 days, they even occupied my berth to place their luggage during day even for night time also. But my suggession to you is that if you are alone the best place is UB.

According to reservation rules of Indian Railways, the sleeping times in any sleeper coach are from 9PM to 6AM. From 6AM to 9PM you are entitled for sitting only. With the consent of the upper berth allocated person, you can sleep on the upper berth.

Indian Railway have to give clear picture about sitting, sleeping and other details to the passengers. Otherwise they have to change the design of sleeper coach so that whoever want to relax at any time, they can. Well the Indian railway will look into the rules.

No when you have paid for sleeper class you are entitled to enjoy your journey as your wish . In case you are asked to sit and travel only for the convenience of others you can change your seat with theirs and go to a higher birth and sleep . But you are not bound to do so it is at your will sir . There no legal binding for you to do so . But in case if you were forced to do so and have an evidence of that you can sue the other party for damages .

Railway shoud clear that whether the person who got lower or middle birth can occupy his birth in day hours or not,if not why should the person waste money for reserving middle & lower birth only for sitting purpose.if ha has to sit only he will not do the reservation in sleeper coatch.he will do the reservation in sitting or chair car to save money.
