Here's an interesting story, I was rail fanning at the Wilmette metra station once and saw a UP Trainmaster's SUV parked in parking lot. Some kids were picking up ballast rocks and throwing them around, I taped on the window of the SUV and told him what was going on he siad, "ok i'll handle it." He then picked up a sheet of paper that had Wilmette PD's number written on it and he called them. Wonder why he called Wilmette instead of UPPD and/or Metra PD?

His job is the train, crew and passengers. Hooligans throwing rocks, even on the grounds of the station, is better handled by the locals.

WHY? Because he did.

I was rail fanning at the Wilmette metra station , Good for you

saw a UP Trainmaster's SUV parked in parking lot. LIKE ALL CITIZENS he did what YOU should have done . CALL THE POLICE.

Last time I looked Union Pacific is not METRA. They both have trains SO WHAT.

Wonder why he called Wilmette instead of UPPD and/or Metra PD? GO ASK HIM.

UP Trainmaster's SUV ?

YOU know he was on duty?

You know he was the Train Master? Your just a Rail Fan REALLY??

SO WHAT?

You are concerned about which Police he called and WHY.? WHY does it matter to YOU.

WHY do YOU ..... NEED TO KNOW? The bad guys want to know too.

Innocent rail fans do the same thing terrorist do before they strike. Wander around, explore and take pictures of trains and stations.

Cook County Sheriff agreed to provide 24-hour dispatching service to Metra for 911 calls

O gosh a sheriff as well could handle it maybe a state patrol too. Maybe they threw some rocks at a train that could involve the FBI.

Picking up ballast rocks probably means they are trespassing. Do you want some knee jerk call out the troops for some potential terrorist thing.. You really do not want that.

Are you trying to say the Willamette Police dispatchers are too stupid to know what to to for the situation?

Tell the Chief

Kyle Murphy

Police Station

710 Ridge Rd.

Wilmette, IL 60091

I am sure he will want to know his dispatchers do not know what to do.

You can call Metra too and say you think they are incompetent to handle stuff.

As the Chief Joseph Perez is former State Police commander . He really wants to know everyone does not know what to do.

The Metra Police Department is a fully sworn municipal police department of more than 140 sworn officers, charged with protecting a complex commuter rail system spanning 6 counties in northeast Illinois roughly the size of Connecticut. The Metra Rail System is more than 1,100 miles of rail, 241 stations and 11 lines. They have a lot more than just ONE parking lot.

They have phone lists and radio's to contact the appropriate AVAILABLE police officer to the scene. THEY KNOW of the many area Police Forces they can call for help if they NEED IT.

For next time courtesy of Metra Police The last line applies to YOU and this situation.

The public is reminded that, before an act, terrorists may use a variety of activities to find out more about their target, to test its security procedures, and to plan their attack. Everyone should be alert for the following suspicious activities:

Conducting surveillance:

Be aware of individuals who are seen multiple times at the same locations, sitting in parked vehicles, waiting or loitering at stations for extended periods, taking notes or annotating maps, or showing an abnormal interest in Metra’s operations and facilities.

Infiltrating secure areas:

Be aware of individuals who are entering restricted areas, attempting to gain access into restricted areas or asking for security sensitive information.

Testing security:

Be aware of individuals who are changing or tampering with locks, disabling surveillance equipment, compromising fences or gates or following Metra vehicles.

Suspicious behavior:

Be aware of unusual or out-of-place activity for your transportation and community environment.

Suspicious packages, bags or vehicles: Be aware of unaccompanied packages or bags placed in a discreet location or other obscured area, or unoccupied vehicles parked close to buildings, bridges, stations, terminals, or other critical structures.

Photography & Videography:

For safety and security reasons, photography or videography on Metra property is only permitted in areas that are clearly open to public use. Areas that are accessible only to Metra employees, including but not limited to, the right-of way and rail yards, are highly restricted areas and are not able to be accessed for photography or videography by the general public. Metra will prosecute trespassers to the fullest extent of the law.

You can help keep Metra a safe and secure travel environment by reporting unattended packages and suspicious activity to the Metra Police at 312-322-2800. *******Never assume someone else will make the call. *****
